THE LEDGER
Doctors provide some, but not all, of these transformations.
And getting your regular medical care from Bond Clinic isn't a requirement for procedures in the clinic's Bond Aesthetics division. That division includes a massage therapist, facial specialist and medical spa, and is in a section of the Bond Clinic Women's Health Center that opened late last year. It has a separate entrance from the more established program that encompasses obstetrics, gynecology and women's diagnostic services. That separation creates more privacy for women or men - of whom there are a growing number - seeking facelifts, massages and other treatments. The 12,000-square-foot Bond Clinic Women's Health Center, in the Verizon building on Avenue B, N.W., is a dream that took five years to make reality, according to the four obstetricians practicing there."It's been our dream to have a center for women," Dr. Vincent Gatto said. "It's one-stop shopping."He said the addition or expansion of massage, facials, laser hair removal and other cosmetic procedures in a medical setting enhances their program.Medical doctors have a growing interest in that aspect of care, and Bond Clinic isn't alone in offering it. Watson Clinic in Lakeland plans to open a separate medical spa next month in a new building that will house its dermatology and otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat) units. In the new Bond Clinic center's obstetrics-diagnostic area, there's more space for minor surgeries such as endometrial ablation to control heavy bleeding. Ultrasound and digital mammography are being done there as well.In exam rooms, what appears to be a closet has an added panel that converts it into a shielded area where women can get undressed or dressed."It allows us to keep doing our electronic medical records while they change back into their clothes," said Dr. Carlos Gabriel.Gone are the separate doctors' offices in which an obstetrician talked to a patient after an exam. These obstetricians have a line of four open cubicles.
The patient talks take place in the exam room or an education room. Separate areas are set up for ultrasound, digital mammography, urinary incontinence evaluation and other diagnostic procedures."We were looking for a clean, uncluttered look with a soothing color scheme," Dr. Eva Salamon said. It's new, streamlined, high-tech and functional, but this section isn't where people go to look better. On the other side, in Bond Aesthetics, are the rooms for procedures such as laser hair removal, treatment of spider veins and broken capillaries, laser skin resurfacing, Botox, and other cosmetic injections.Dr. Jana Kenaan is the fourth obstetrician in the new center.
Therapists give massages and several types of facials. Salamon hopes to start a therapeutic massage program for pregnant patients.Having a center designed specifically for the varied services it offers lets them add extra touches on both sides, she said.
